Jared Orth couldn’t even bend over to tie his own shoes without
experiencing excruciating pain, let alone continue competing in
sprint triathlons. “Standing up andwalking two feet across the room
hurt, I knew somethingwas wrong,” Jared says. After a visit to the
Virtua Health andWellness Center inMoorestown, near his home, a
dramatic X-ray showed clear signs of severe degenerative joint
disease in his left hip. At only 37 years old, he already needed a total
hip replacement.
With two young children at home to keep upwith, andmissing his
active lifestyle, Jared’s choicewas clear. Hewanted to remember
what it was like towalk without a limp and sit on the couchwithout
feeling pain, so he opted for surgery at the Virtua Joint Replacement
Institute (JRI) in the Health andWellness Center on the Voorhees
Campus. His only concernwas getting back to his normal lifewithout
a long recovery time. It’s a common sentiment frommany patients: “I
just want to get back towhat I was doing before.”

Jared, because today’s artificial implants can last 25 to 30 years.
