and mind, Virtua now offers
patients psychological
screenings with the Polaris
Oncology Distress
Management System to
measure psychological
distress. When properly
identified and followed by
appropriate treatment,
quality of life is dramatically
improved and the chance
of a positive medical
outcome increases.
Robotics Surgery
and Oncology
Virtua is a leader in robotic
surgery in South Jersey,
offering patients battling
certain types of cancer a
cutting-edge method of
surgical treatment. Virtua
was one of the first in the
region to offer a range of
technologies that are less
invasive yet provide a 3-D
view, so recovery is easier
and patients can return to
daily life faster. Robotic
surgeons at Virtua specialize
in Colorectal, Gynecological,
Thoracic and Urologic
procedures.
Auxilians Give
$1 Million for
Renovations at
Virtua Memorial
Renovations to the oncology
floor at Virtua Memorial in
Mount Holly will begin in
2013, thanks in part to a
$1 million gift from the Virtua
Memorial Auxiliary Board.
The funds, raised during a
2004 capital campaign, will
allow for the space to get a
much-needed makeover.
Keeping with a Virtua-wide
initiative to create serene
environments that promote
healing, the unit will feature
hardwood floors, soft colors
for paint and textiles and
new lighting features that
will make it a warm and
welcoming place for patients
and their families.
Virtua is one of just 1,400 facilities in the nation accredited by the
Commission on Cancer (COC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).
Accreditation is granted to facilities that voluntarily commit to providing the
best in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Receiving care at a COC-accredited
