VIRTUA’S CAR SEAT
CHECK PROGRAM
Virtua physicians deliver more than 8,000 babies each year,
and with this experience, expectant mothers can trust our
renowned doctors and nurses for support throughout
pregnancy, delivery and beyond. More importantly,
Virtua's obstetricians and nurses help parents create a
family-centered pregnancy and birth experience that's
personal and memorable.
Renovations at VirtuaMemorial Create Specialized
Environment for Baby, Momand Family
Thanks to the generous support of donors, including the
Auxiliary Board to Virtua Memorial, significant renovations in
the mother-baby unit at Virtua Memorial have created a
warm, soothing space for mom and baby. Private birthing
rooms with advanced technology and personal amenities,
including computers, flat screen televisions, and seating areas
provide added comfort. The Special Care Nursery, for babies
who need a little extra help at birth, includes specially
designed lighting that enhances the environment the fragile
babies need to grow and thrive.
CHOP at Virtua Telemedicine Program
Telemedicine robots ease anxiety for sick kids and their
parents by allowing them to consult with CHOP specialists
in Philadelphia without ever having to leave Virtua Voorhees
or Virtua Memorial. More than $80,000 raised during the
2013 Virtua Memorial Golf Classic, supported by the
Philadelphia Flyers, helped purchase the robot for patients
in the Pediatric Pavilion at Virtua Memorial.
Maternal Fetal Medicine ProgramMarks 10Years of Care
For the last decade, expectant mothers facing high-risk
pregnancies and life threatening complications have relied on
the renowned team in Virtua’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Program. Led by Dr. Ronald Librizzi, Virtua's nationally
recognized maternal-fetal medicine physicians partner with
obstetricians to ensure the best possible chances for healthy,
successful pregnancies.
Angel Garden at Virtua Voorhees Provides Comfort
to Grieving Families
Virtua Foundation proudly supports this peaceful outdoor
sanctuary at Virtua Voorhees, a special place for families who
face the loss of a baby. A stone water wall with plaques
featuring the names of angel babies who will always be
remembered is surrounded by trees and flowers, and watched
over by a special angel statue. The garden is open to all
families, even if they are not Virtua patients.

NEWS + ANNOUNCEMENTS
Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among
children in the United States. The use of car seats
dramatically reduces serious and fatal injuries – but only
when they are used properly. Often, they are not: a recent
study found 72% of nearly 3,500 observed car and booster
seats were misused.
At Virtua, specially-trained car seat technicians provide curb-
side assistance to new parents at discharge. We offer the
service to every family taking a new baby home to ensure
their car seats are properly installed and that they know how
to safely place their newborns in the seats.
“Virtua is the only healthcare system in South Jersey to offer
this extensive car seat check service and we are looking for
partners and support to ensure we can continue and expand
the program,” said Kelly Nierstedt, AVP, Women’s &
Children’s Programs of Excellence, Virtua. “We know it can
and will save lives.”
Virtua Foundation also provides car seats to families in need
of assistance, thanks to donations from our community
partner, Carz ‘n Toyz. Additional gifts in support of the car
seat check program would allow Virtua to expand services to
the community and assist more families.
