Reaffirming Our Roots
La Comunidad Hispana has its history and roots in Southern Chester County. Since
1973, we have worked hand-in-hand with our local community to help strengthen and
support this region that we call “home.” Last year was no exception as we moved forward
with the decision to separate from a Philadelphia-based organization and bring all governance,
management, operations and program support to our local area.
One of the first commitments that we made was to work with and support our local businesses. During the past year, we
have transitioned our accounting, consulting, IT business relationships and many other services to local providers to
streamline decision-making and make changes that are in keeping with the needs of the communities we serve.
e results speak for themselves.
Using a local firm, our budgeting and financial processes provide information in a timely manner to help our Board of
Trustees and Management address issues and opportunities more effectively and efficiently. is has helped immensely in
making decisions regarding our programs and services.
We established a new comprehensive information technology system, and thanks to a $50,000 gift of software technology,
we were able to implement programs that help us better manage our programs and services. Staff now has sophisticated
remote server access capabilities, which allows a high degree of work flexibility, efficiency and productivity, while
minimizing lost work time due to weather closures and other impediments. We also enhanced our donor and gift
management program offering immediate access to donor and gift information so that we can thank the many people who
support us in a timeframe that reflects the depth our gratitude. Plus, the Health Center has also expanded the use of our
Electronic Medical Records, providing ready access to clinical data critical to the care of our patients.
Finally, with local talent, we expanded our Human Resource Program and Marketing Programs, and increased our
involvement with community organizations so that we can better serve our clients, and the people who care for them.
Our work with these new, local partners has resulted in a robust infrastructure, reflecting best management practices. At the
same time, these partnerships have deepened our roots in Chester County, returning more than $100,000 in business
annually to the local economy.
La Comunidad Hispana is proud to be part of the Southern Chester County community. We will continue to work with our
communities to provide the highest quality services so that together, we can strengthen and build our region for the
betterment of all.
Dear Friends,
La Comunidad Hispana has much to be thankful for this past year. In the fall, the Board
elected Alice Moorhead as the new Board President. Together, we have taken important
steps to making our board and our organization stronger and are excited to have three
new board members: Miguel Alban, Paul Huberty, and Valencia McClure. LCH is also
grateful for Michele Tucker’s leadership and commitment over many years. anks to
the continued support of our donors, the hard work and commitment of our board
members and staff, we are able to continue to serve those who are in need in Southern
Chester County.
is year, we have expanded and enhanced our service in keeping with our goals
established in our three-year strategic plan. We introduced a legal assistance program,
expanded our health education and outreach services at several mushroom farms, and
strengthened our programs by combining social services and education services into
one community services department. roughout the year, we have invested in our
organizations’ infrastructure and in the fall, we applied for Federally Qualified Health
Center (FQHC) status as one of several steps taken to ensure our future financial
sustainability. Plus, we continue to work in tandemwith other service organizations to
make our community a healthier place to live.
We are proud to serve our community and grateful for all of your support!
